Step 1

Firstly, you must ensure that you adjust the bow tie to the right size (the width of your neck exactly) before putting it around your neck.

Step 2

Then, position the end of the left side, over the end of the right side so that both ends overlap each other at the narrow area of the tie (behind the oval curve).

Step 3

Next, place the left end through the loop now surrounding your neck and pull both ends to create a simple, loose knot.

Step 4

Take the end that is on the left in both hands and fold it to the right in the middle of the oval. Then hold the folded end between your thumb and forefinger of your left hand.

Step 5

Position the right end in the middle of the left end (which is held in your left hand) this allows the right end to hang down over the knot. Then hold both ends with your thumb and forefinger in your left hand.

Step 6

Pass the right end of the bow under and around the folded left end. This creates a loop.

Step 7

Repeat part of the previous step by taking the right end around the left end once again, and then pass it through the loop you have just made. Press the part of the tie on the right with your thumb and fold it at the same time, this create a slight crease.

Step 8

Keep a firm hold of the right hand side of the bow in your right hand, using your left take the end of the bow that is already halfway through and pull carefully.

Step 9

To adjust the bow, take hold of both ends and pull until the bow is firmly tied and in place.
